The Painting Process
Acrylic Paintings
“Splash and Control”
I always start with a white canvas. I begin each painting with a simple, clean pencil sketch that will create the “sections” of the image. I use Golden Fluid Acrylics for paints, which are translucent, and can be layered on top of eachother to create new colours. Each of the sections of my paintings are worked on separately and individually and have layers and layers of paint to create the final colour. I always start with light colours and layer darker colors on top.
Once all the color is on the canvas, I finish each painting with bold
black lines that are painted over the pencil lines with thin paintbrushes. This gives the painting a primitive, yet clean, finish. In this process, the colour is the “splash”, the black line is the “control”.
My paintings are inspired by my imagination, my spiritual beliefs, and the nature that surrounds me. I feel compelled to communicate a message with my work, be it an abstract idea, or simply to convey the beauty that is in our world.
