The true story of my story book IN THE LAND OF SWEET DREAMS
In 2005, I had 2000 books printed when I self published my first children’s book. When the books arrived, I discovered a flaw in the paper. The printing company agreed to reprint my books for me. When I asked them what would happen to the flawed books, they said they would go into the recycling bin. I asked them if they would be interested in donating the books to needy children around the world instead, and they agreed. I then proceeded to distribute the books to organizations that work with needy children, and the books have found homes in Uganda, Mexico, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Canada, and India, just to name a few.

Dr. Jenn Brenner, a Canadian Doctor, took this photo. The photo was taken in Uganda at one of the Healthy Child Uganda Projects in one of the villages. My books were used for prizes in various different contests.... one was given to the family who showed the most improvements.... mosquito netting for sleep, enclosed latrine and safe washing practices in a village that just started the project. In another rural village, the books were awarded as prizes in a coloring contest for children. I am told that my book is really a treasure to these children.... and it’s content when translated to them is a comfort. They face so much in their lives.... one in five children die before they reach 5 years old in Uganda. Healthy Child Uganda is changing those numbers but it’s a slow process.
